Lia Butler is a contemporary R&B. Afro-soul singer/songwriter hailing from Durban. She describes  her sound as Neo-Zulu, a blend of Neo-soul. umbaqanga, maskandi and amahubo. A bubbling under artist within the Neo-Soul scene as her light, jazz swing voice has captivated many listeners, including established artists such as Simphiwe Dana, Thandiswa Mazwai, Sho Madjozi and Okmalumkoolkat.

Among her career highlights, she has performed at one of Okmalumkoolkat’s Spova Gang events, she also appeared on the SABC 3 television show The Mic (hosted by Proverb), as she was interviewed alongside Zoë Modiga and  she'll soon to be sharing the stage with legendary jazz musician, Madala Kunene,

On the 29th of September, the Neo-Zulu songstress has blessed us with her much anticipated single, U C U. Most of her catelogue has been exclusive to Soundcloud  and to finally get a full DSP release from her is literally music to our hears.

U C U  is a smooth Neo-Soul, jazz single that is the sonic definition of Lia Butler signature sound. Her child-like tone and harmonies float effortlessly over the modern neo-soul instrumental. One might compare her graceful approach to music to that of the legendary Queen of Neo-Soul herself, Erykah Badu.

it feels kind of unfair that we only got less than 4 minutes of her hypnotic, sonic therapy,  cause we want MORE MUSIC from the Zulu enchantress. Hopefully we'll get a lengthly project soon.
